What is Roka Ceremony puja ?

The Roka Ceremony is a significant pre-wedding ritual, marking the official announcement of the engagement between the bride and groom. It symbolizes the beginning of the wedding preparations and the union of two families. This signifies that both the bride and groom have chosen to be lifelong soulmates, and it is time for the family to stop seeking and begin wedding preparations. It comprises a tilak ceremony in which lori (holy thread) and rice paste are applied on the foreheads of girls and boys. The girls wear red chunni (long scarves). Also included is a gift exchange. The Roka ritual is performed at auspicious hours (Pandit-recommended Muhrat hours) based on the horoscopes of the bride and groom and the favourable placements of the planets. The ceremony is held at the bride’s home or a chosen venue, where both families come together to bless the couple and exchange gifts.
